Iraq Secures Deal for Ongoing Dollar Shipments from the US
Iraq has reached an agreement with the United States to continue shipments of physical US dollars to Baghdad, following disruptions earlier this year. The decision was made after Prime Minister Ali Faleh al-Zaidi's visit to the US.
The agreement will help Iraq meet legitimate demand for foreign currency and follows steps taken by the Iraqi government to tighten oversight of dollar distribution and regulate its use.
A new shipment is expected to arrive in the coming days, valued between $450 million and $500 million. The US had halted an expected shipment in April due to pressure on Baghdad over attacks by Iran-backed armed groups.
