Iraq Secures New Dollar Shipment Deal with US Amid Ongoing Sanctions
Iraq's Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi has reached an agreement with the United States on continued dollar shipments, according to government spokesperson Haidar al-Aboudi. The development comes after US-imposed sanctions packages were reported, including halting cash dollar shipments and transfers. However, the Central Bank of Iraq (CBI) denied these claims, stating that shipments are ongoing.
The last shipment was in early August, when the US Federal Reserve sent $500 million in cash to the CBI for traveler's transactions and foreign remittances. The agreement is part of a broader effort by Zaidi to improve relations with the US, including advancing banking reforms and curbing Iran-backed militias' influence.
