Ireland Commemorates U2's 50-Year Career with Limited-Edition Silver Coin

The Central Bank of Ireland has released a commemorative two-euro silver coin to celebrate U2's 50-year career. The coin honors Bono, The Edge, Adam Clayton, and Larry Mullen Jr., recognizing their impact on global rock.

Its design incorporates symbols from the band's discography and national identity. With legal tender status throughout the eurozone, this limited-edition release makes U2 one of the select few cultural figures immortalized on their native country's currency.

The coin's origins date back to 1976 when Larry Mullen Jr. placed an ad at his school in Dublin, marking the beginning of the legendary band's journey. A mintage of 150,000 units has been produced at an official price of 14.95 euros, with a special high-quality silver version available for 39.95 euros.

The coin reproduces the silhouette and images of U2's four traditional members, accompanied by Ireland's classic silver harp symbol. Bono's activism has also contributed to the band's stature, as he has made fighting extreme poverty, AIDS, and inequality a prominent part of his public activity.
