Ireland's Inflation Rate Surges to 3.4% as Energy Prices Soar
Ireland's inflation rate has accelerated to 3.4% in August, according to preliminary figures from the Central Statistics Office. This marks a sharp increase from July's annual inflation of 3.1%. Energy prices were the primary driver of this acceleration, rising 4.3% from July and 12% higher than the same period last year.
Food prices actually fell by 0.2% on a monthly basis, while services prices remained unchanged from July but increased 3.7% annually. Non-energy industrial goods rose 1.0% on the month and 1.3% annually.
The Central Statistics Office noted that Ireland's inflation rate still lags behind the eurozone average of 2.9%. Eurostat is due to publish its flash estimate for eurozone inflation in August, which will provide further insight into regional economic trends.
