Japan 10-Year Bond Yield Hits 30-Year High Amid Global Rate Hike Fears
The yield on Japan's benchmark 10-year government bonds has reached its highest level in nearly three decades. On August 18, it rose to 2.945%, a high not seen since September 1996.
This increase came as bond yields overseas climbed, fueled by rising oil prices and inflation fears. The Bank of Japan is also expected to raise interest rates at its next monetary policy meeting in September.
Central bank officials have been making increasingly hawkish statements, suggesting a more aggressive monetary tightening.
