Japan Economy Expands Faster Than Expected Amid Interest Rate Hike Fears
Japan's economy has seen a faster-than-expected expansion in the second quarter of the current fiscal year, according to revised data from the Cabinet Office. The growth rate is now estimated at 0.4 percent for the three months between April and June, up from the initial estimate of 0.3 percent.
The improvement in economic performance is attributed to a slight uptick in private consumption and corporate investment, which are still considered weak but better than initially thought. Meanwhile, lower imports have contributed to the revised growth rate of gross domestic product.
These developments come as Japan's central bank prepares to raise its main interest rate next week amidst concerns over inflation and a weakening yen. The Bank of Japan has been under pressure to take decisive action in the market and monetary sector, with US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent recently expressing support for this approach.
