Japan Faces Another Wave of Price Hikes Amid West Asia Conflict
The prices of food and beverage items in Japan are set to rise in October due to higher packaging costs stemming from the West Asia conflict. A survey by Teikoku Databank Ltd found that 3,153 items will see price increases next month, following a hike for 4,965 items in September. The research firm described the two months as another 'wave of price hikes.'
The rising costs are attributed to higher crude oil and naphtha prices caused by the conflict in West Asia, which has driven up packaging material costs. Additionally, Japan's weaker yen has pushed up import prices, prompting companies to pass on higher costs to consumers.
