Japan Gov't Unites Behind End of Reflationary Policy Amid Yen Weakness
The Japanese government is united in its view that reflationary policy is over, according to Finance Minister Satsuki Katayama. Speaking to Nikkei, Katayama backed the Bank of Japan's efforts to fight inflation as Tokyo seeks to counter yen weakness.
Katayama made these comments on October 1, just a day after the BOJ released its opinion summary, which raised questions over the central bank's policy stance. The finance minister stressed that there is no disagreement within the government regarding this view.
The reflationary policy has been in place for some time now, and it appears that Japan is shifting gears to combat inflation and stabilize the yen.
