Japan has officially published a list of 51 countries whose citizens are eligible for its digital nomad visa. The visa allows foreign professionals and freelancers to live and work remotely in Japan for up to six months.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan confirmed that only passport holders from these nations can apply, with the majority hailing from Europe and Asia.

Some notable countries on the list include the United States, Canada, Mexico, Brazil, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Thailand, Malaysia, and several European nations.

However, most African nations are absent from the list, meaning Kenyan passport holders and other African nationals do not currently qualify for the visa under the primary eligibility framework.

The financial threshold for applicants is also quite high, with a minimum annual gross income of 10 million Japanese yen (approximately KSh 8.7 million) required to demonstrate.
