Japan Offers 1.8 Trillion Won in Shipbuilding Subsidies

The Japanese government has announced plans to allocate over 1.8 trillion won in subsidies to major shipbuilders as part of efforts to revive its domestic shipbuilding industry.

The funds, worth approximately 213.1 billion yen, will be provided to three companies - Imabari Shipbuilding, Japan Marine United (JMU), and Namura Shipbuilding - over a 10-year period leading up to fiscal year 2034.

The subsidies are intended for automation investments and research and development by each shipbuilder. The Japanese government established the 'Shipbuilding Industry Regeneration Fund' to strengthen its domestic shipbuilding sector, with plans to attract a total of 1 trillion yen in public-private joint investments over the next decade.
