Japan Pledges $1 Billion Loan to Expand Mongolian Airport
Japan has agreed to provide Mongolia with a yen loan worth approximately 158 billion yen ($1 billion) for the expansion of Chinggis Khaan International Airport. This decision was made during Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi's meeting with Mongolian Prime Minister Nyam-Osor Uchral in Tokyo on September 29.
The agreement aims to strengthen ties between Japan and Mongolia, which has been seeking a balanced diplomacy by maintaining close relationships with both Japan and the United States. Takaichi stated that he wants to 'strengthen a cooperative relationship for peace and prosperity,' while Uchral emphasized the importance of further developing friendship and cooperation with Japan.
This expansion project will contribute to Mongolia's autonomy and resilience, as well as heighten its ties with Japan and the United States. The loan is seen as a significant gesture by Japan in strengthening its relationship with Mongolia amidst China's criticism of Japan's growing military presence.
