Japan PM Vows to Strengthen Yen Through Economic Growth
Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi has reaffirmed her administration's commitment to boosting the country's economic competitiveness, which she believes will help underpin the yen. In a recorded interview aired by Nippon Television on October 1, Takaichi emphasized that Japan's economic policy aims to increase the economy's supply capacity through investment in crisis management and growth areas.
Takaichi also mentioned her meeting with US President Donald Trump last month, stating that she told him about the yen's undervaluation being a problem. However, she clarified that the administration is not trying to manipulate exchange rates.
According to Takaichi, her administration has received endorsement from US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent for its economic policy during bilateral talks between Finance Minister Satsuki Katayama and Bessent on August 31. There are no plans to change Japan's stance of pursuing both a strong economy and sustainable fiscal policy.
