Japan Police Nab Duo Behind $515K Crypto Heist

Japanese police have arrested two individuals suspected of stealing approximately $515,000 in cryptocurrencies from a woman. The suspects allegedly impersonated Osaka prefectural police and demanded that the victim transfer her crypto assets to prove her innocence.

The scammers claimed that the woman's bank card was connected to a 600 billion-yen fraud and money-laundering case. They then obtained crypto assets worth about 81 million yen from the victim.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the operation may be based in Cambodia, with losses totaling around 240 million yen (approximately $1.526 million) attributed to the two suspects. It is also believed that the leader of the alleged operation may be a Chinese national.
