Japan's Finance Minister Satsuki Katayama has signaled that her country is prepared to take decisive action on foreign exchange if necessary. Speaking in a verbal intervention, she noted that authorities are ready to act appropriately on currency shifts whenever needed.

The comments come after the US Treasury referenced the joint statement between Japan and the US, which calls for an end to excessive currency swings.

Katayama emphasized that her country will maintain round-the-clock communication with the US. The current exchange rate of USD/JPY is 163.83, a slight decline of 0.02% on the day.
