Japan Trading House Lobby Chief Seeks Stronger Yen Amid Industry Windfall
Japan's trading house lobby chief, Masahiro Okafuji, has urged a stronger yen for the good of the country. Despite the industry benefiting from a weaker currency, Okafuji, who is also chair and CEO of Itochu, believes a stronger yen would be beneficial for Japan.
In an interview on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, Okafuji welcomed Berkshire Hathaway's intention to buy more shares in trading houses. However, his main concern remains the state of the Japanese currency.
