Japanese Finance Minister Satsuki Katayama reaffirmed on Monday that the joint foreign exchange (FX) statement with the United States remains in effect, emphasizing the government's commitment to countering disorderly currency movements. Katayama declined to comment on specific FX levels but stressed the importance of maintaining stable FX markets to avoid chaotic fluctuations. Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi echoed these concerns, noting that the yen's undervaluation poses significant problems.

Katayama also pledged to enhance transparency in estimating tax revenue, aiming for greater precision. Despite these assurances, the USD/JPY pair saw a modest increase of 0.14% on the day, trading at 157.80 at the time of reporting.

The Japanese Yen's value is influenced by various factors, including the Bank of Japan's monetary policy, bond yield differentials, and global risk sentiment. The BoJ's shift away from ultra-loose monetary policy in 2024 has provided some support to the yen, narrowing the policy divergence with other central banks.

As a safe-haven currency, the yen tends to strengthen during market turbulence, reflecting its perceived reliability and stability.
