Japanese Household Finances Soar to New Heights
Japan's household financial assets reached an all-time high of 2,519 trillion yen at the end of June, according to data released by the Bank of Japan. This represents a 11% increase from the same period last year.
The growth is largely attributed to soaring stock prices, with the Nikkei 225 stock average exceeding 70,000 for the first time in June. Among household financial assets, equities saw a significant jump of 47% to a record high of 486 trillion yen.
Investment trusts also grew by 36.8% to 193 trillion yen, another record high. Insurance policies rose by 3% to 426 trillion yen due to the appreciation of foreign currency-denominated products as a result of the yen's historic weakening.
