Japanese Households Set New Record for Financial Assets
Financial assets held by Japanese households have reached a record high of 2,519 trillion yen ($16 trillion) at the end of June. This represents an 11% increase from the same period last year.
The main driver behind this surge is the rise in stock prices, which has boosted household equities to a value of 486 trillion yen, up 47% from the previous year. Investment trusts also saw a significant increase, growing by 36.8% to 193 trillion yen.
In addition to stocks and investment trusts, households held 38 trillion yen in debt securities, representing an increase of 15.5%. This rise is attributed to rising interest rates prompting more purchases of Japanese government bonds issued for individual investors.
