Japanese Private-Sector Salaries Reach Record High Amid Slowing Growth
The average annual salary for private-sector employees in Japan reached a record high of 4.87 million yen last year, marking the fifth consecutive annual increase, according to the National Tax Agency.
The figure is the highest since the agency began compiling the statistics in 1949 and represents a 1.9% rise from the previous year.
The industry with the highest average salary was electricity, gas, heat supply, and water services, which recorded an average of 8.54 million yen per year.
The lowest average annual pay was found in the accommodation and food services sector at 2.76 million yen.
