Japanese Yen Resilient Despite Rising Oil Prices
The Japanese Yen (JPY) held its ground despite rising oil prices, which could put pressure on the currency due to Japan's reliance on imports. The USD/JPY pair is currently trading around 163.70 during Asian hours on Wednesday.
Renewed hostilities in the Middle East have reignited geopolitical tensions and kept investors focused on inflationary risks and interest rate outlooks. As a major net importer of oil, Japan remains vulnerable to rising energy costs, which could negatively impact its economy.
The upcoming inflation and labor market data from Tokyo is expected to be released soon, with year-over-year Tokyo CPI excluding fresh food forecasted to accelerate to 1.7% in July, up from 1.6% previously. The Japanese unemployment rate is also expected to hold steady at 2.5%.
