Japan's Apparel Imports Surge 6.6% to $2.3 Billion in August
Japan's apparel imports continued their upward trend in August 2026, increasing by 6.6% to $2.3 billion year-over-year, according to provisional data from the Ministry of Finance.
This growth indicates resilient consumer demand and a strong textile-related trade sector in Japan, despite global economic uncertainties.
Apparel and accessories accounted for 9.8% of Japan's total imports, which reached $23.6 billion in August 2026. The imports of textile yarn and fabrics grew at a faster pace, rising by 11.4% to $2.3 million yen (~$18.1 million), representing 5.2% of Japan's total imports.
