Japan's economy is undergoing a profound long-term transformation, according to International Monetary Fund First Deputy Managing Director Dan Katz. The structural reforms implemented during former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe's tenure are finally yielding results, providing room for the Bank of Japan (BOJ) to continue normalizing monetary policy.

Katz stated in an interview that inflation remains slightly above the 2% target, and he expects the BOJ to continue gradually exiting its ultra-loose monetary policy. He emphasized that Japan's economic improvement is not a short-term phenomenon but rather a concrete manifestation of structural reforms entering a harvest period.

The BOJ will formulate policy according to its legal mandate, supporting economic growth while ensuring the inflation target is met. With Japan's inflation currently above target, Katz expects monetary policy normalization to continue.
