Startale Japan has introduced the country’s first digital corporate bond that uses a yen-denominated stablecoin for both interest payments and principal redemption. The bond, called Startale Bond, is settled using JPYSC, a stablecoin issued by SBI Shinsei Trust Bank. This marks a significant step in integrating stablecoins with traditional capital markets, moving beyond their typical use in crypto trading and payments.

The launch represents one of the first practical applications of JPYSC, developed through a collaboration between Startale Group and SBI Group. SBI Shinsei Trust Bank issues and manages the trust assets backing JPYSC, while SBI VC Trade oversees its distribution. Startale Group provides the underlying blockchain technology. The bond demonstrates how regulated stablecoins can function as a settlement layer for financial products that resemble conventional securities.

Startale Group CEO Sota Watanabe highlighted the goal of bringing finance onchain to create new options for corporate fundraising and individual investment. The company hopes this model can eventually be extended to a wider range of Japanese businesses, expanding the use of yen-denominated stablecoins in corporate finance and securities settlement.

The development comes as financial institutions explore how stablecoins and tokenized assets can be incorporated into traditional financial markets. In Japan, this transition is occurring within a defined regulatory framework for stablecoin issuance. The Startale Bond adds corporate debt settlement to the list of potential use cases for JPYSC, which also includes payments, remittances, and digital securities.
