Japan's Minimum Wage Hikes by 5% to ¥1177
The average minimum wage in Japan is set to increase by 5.0% to 1,177 yen ($8) an hour in fiscal 2026, marking the second-highest hike in history.
This represents a 56-yen per-hour increase from the current rate of 1,121 yen.
The decision was made by the Central Minimum Wages Council, with Acting Chair Sumiko Ebisuno handing over the recommended wage hike to Takeshi Kishimoto, head of the Labor Standards Bureau, in Tokyo's Minato Ward on July 28.
