JMMB Group Cautious Amid Rate Hikes, Middle East Tensions
JMMB Group Ltd is closely monitoring US interest rates and Middle East tensions as it navigates global market fluctuations. The company's Chief Financial Officer, Patrick Ellis, highlighted the volatility in markets due to the recent attacks on Iran by the US and Israel.
With the Federal Reserve raising its benchmark rate to 3.75% to 4.0%, JMMB is bracing for potential trading losses due to higher borrowing costs and a shift towards safer government securities.
The Bank of Jamaica has also raised its policy rate to 6.0%, its highest since March 2025, citing inflation caused by conflicts in the Middle East and Ukraine, as well as drought-driven food prices.
JMMB operates across several countries, including Jamaica, the Dominican Republic, Trinidad and Tobago, and Barbados. Ellis stated that the company is focused on balancing regional operations while keeping an eye on global market developments.
