Jobs, Inflation, and Fed Commentary Dominate Busy Week Ahead
The US stock market is bracing for a busy week ahead of it, with several key economic indicators set to be released. The labor market will be in focus, starting with August job openings and labor turnover data on Tuesday. ADP's private payrolls report follows on Wednesday, with economists expecting an increase of 85,000 jobs.
The main event comes Friday with the September jobs report. Economists expect nonfarm payrolls to rise by 60,000, down sharply from August's 162,000 gain. The unemployment rate is expected to hold at 4.1%, although recent declines in continuing claims could point to a lower reading.
Wednesday will also bring the third estimate of second-quarter GDP, with growth expected to be revised to 1.5% from 2.1%. Investors may also focus on August personal income and spending data, as well as core PCE inflation, which is expected to rise 0.27% in August from 0.25%.
