Jones Fires Up Crowds with Call to Leave Paris Accord
New Zealand First deputy leader Shane Jones made a spirited address to around 100 people in Te Kūiti on Sunday, discussing topics such as provincial economic growth and environmental regulations.
Jones emphasized that NZ First's focus on rural regions has led to significant investments through the $3 billion provincial growth fund, which he believes will safeguard the backbone industries of New Zealand's economy.
He also reiterated the party's plans to abolish the Waitangi Tribunal and reduce greenhouse gas emissions by leaving the Paris Accord. Jones argued that current environmental laws are hindering economic development in mining sectors such as iron sand at Tahaaroa, where he suggested NZ First would prioritize jobs over 'zero carbon' targets.
Jones also touched on social issues, stating that NZ First wants to protect family values from left-wing attempts to redefine gender, and asking people to respect the private sphere of life when it comes to personal matters.
