Kashkari Warns Broad Inflation Still a Concern, Despite Rate Hike
Neel Kashkari, head of the Minneapolis Federal Reserve, stated that price growth is still excessive in every part of the U.S. economy, not just energy. Speaking on Fox News's Sunday Morning Futures, Kashkari said Americans face daily price increases beyond crude oil costs and across service industries.
According to CNBC, even excluding energy and food groups, which are essential for families, the underlying rate of price growth remains at an uncomfortable level. Kashkari emphasized that monetary policy cannot address blocked shipping routes or lower crude oil prices but can be effective against inflation embedded in services and the broader economy.
Kashkari's statements align with those of Fed Chairman Kevin Warsh, who said last week that August inflation measured by the Fed's preferred price index stood at approximately 3.6%. The recent rate increase was the first since July 2023, occurring as the Fed revised its inflation projections upward and delayed reaching the 2% goal to 2029.
