Kazimir: Interest Rate Hike Unavoidable Amid High Energy Prices
European Central Bank (ECB) Governing Council member and Governor of the National Bank of Slovakia, Peter Kazimir, has weighed in on the recent interest rate hike. Kazimir stated that the rate increase at the policy meeting earlier this month was 'unavoidable'.
Energy prices remain a key factor for higher inflationary pressures, according to Kazimir. He emphasized that flexibility will be crucial going forward, adding that there is still time to adjust policies as needed. In particular, he highlighted January as a key month for repricing the economy.
