Kazimir Sees September Rate Hike as Inflation Containment Necessary
European Central Bank (ECB) policy hawk Peter Kazimir has signaled that a rate hike in September is likely to contain inflation, even if the economic outlook improves.
Kazimir's comments come after the ECB left interest rates unchanged at its last meeting but hinted at a rate hike in September due to soaring oil and gas prices.
'I remain of the view that at least one more hike will be needed as part of our measured adjustment to inflation risks,' Kazimir said. 'This is warranted even if the situation improves somewhat.'
