Kiwi Tumbles Under Pressure from Widening US Rate Gap
The NZD/USD currency pair has been under significant pressure due to the widening gap between US and New Zealand front-end interest rates. The US 2-year yield advantage over New Zealand is now at its highest level in years, reaching around 87.5 basis points.
This unusual sensitivity to relative front-end rates is a recent phenomenon, with the NZD/USD rate correlation hitting 99.6th percentile since 2000. The bearish trend has been persistent despite overall risk conditions remaining stable.
The technicals indicate that the pair is coiling within a rising wedge structure on the four-hourly chart. A break of this structure could lead to further downside, with potential targets at 0.5680 and 0.5660.
