Knot Gains Support as Frontrunner to Lead ECB Amid Lagarde Succession

Dutch Prime Minister Rob Jetten has endorsed Klaas Knot as an ideal candidate to lead the European Central Bank (ECB), saying many countries in the region would find him a perfect fit.

Knot, who led the Dutch central bank from 2011 to 2025 and chaired the Financial Stability Board, brings experience of the euro zone's debt crisis to the table.

'He was very successful at the head of the Netherlands' central bank,' Jetten said. 'He is very pragmatic.'

Knot is one of the frontrunners to succeed Christine Lagarde, who is expected to leave her post before her term ends next October.
