Labor's Inflation Woes Spark Voter Anger as Interest Rates Hit 15-Year High
The Reserve Bank of Australia's decision to raise interest rates to 4.6% has sparked widespread criticism from Labor voters who feel they are being pushed to the limit financially.
According to research by the Reserve Bank, only 25% of respondents correctly understood that higher interest rates would lead to lower inflation.
Labor's finance minister, Jim Chalmers, and Prime Minister Anthony Albanese blamed external factors such as Donald Trump's war in Iran for the current inflation crisis.
However, Reserve Bank Governor Michele Bullock put some of the blame on excess demand in the economy due to government spending, citing fuel prices and other disruptions from the Middle East as contributing factors.
