Labour Promises Responsible Fiscal Plan to Support New Zealanders
New Zealanders are falling behind under National's leadership, according to Labour Leader Chris Hipkins. He claims that household budgets are stretched, small businesses are under pressure, and public services are struggling.
Hipkins contrasts this with Labour's promise of a responsible fiscal plan, which he says will get the books in order without shrinking the economy. Labour Finance and Economy spokesperson Barbara Edmonds notes that every election commitment has been fully costed and funded, with room to respond to unexpected events.
Labor plans to return the books to surplus by 2028/29 and bring net debt below 20 percent of GDP over time. They will achieve this by making better choices about public spending and ensuring that every dollar works harder.
