Lagarde Confirms 2027 Departure from ECB Presidency
Christine Lagarde's planned departure from the European Central Bank (ECB) in 2027 is sparking early discussions about her successor. The ECB president reiterated that she will leave the bank next year, but declined to confirm whether it will be in October.
'I'll leave in '27,' Lagarde told Ireland's RTE Radio on Friday. When asked if that meant in October of that year, she said, 'We'll see.'
Lagarde's departure would open up one of the most powerful positions in global central banking, with former monetary chiefs from the Netherlands and Spain already vying for the job.
