Lagarde Eyes Davos Top Job as ECB Term Nears End
Christine Lagarde, the European Central Bank (ECB) president, is being considered for a top position at the World Economic Forum (WEF), which could happen in 2027. This news has sparked attention, as it would mark a significant transition from Europe's central bank to Davos.
The WEF's board is currently co-chaired by Roche Vice Chairman André Hoffmann and BlackRock CEO Larry Fink, who are overseeing the leadership transition process after founder Klaus Schwab stepped down last year. Singaporean President Tharman Shanmugaratnam emphasized that suitable candidates for successors to Fink and Hoffmann already exist within the organization.
Lagarde has served on the WEF board multiple times and expressed her willingness to lead the organization during a recent meeting of the board near Geneva. Her candidacy was discussed, with 28 board members showing their trust in her by naming her a likely candidate for the presidency.
