Lagarde in Line to Lead World Economic Forum After ECB Stint
European Central Bank (ECB) head Christine Lagarde is being considered for the top spot at the World Economic Forum (WEF), according to a Swiss newspaper report. The Neue Zürcher Zeitung reported that Lagarde was referred to as a 'putative candidate' for WEF president during a board meeting near Geneva.
Lagarde, who serves on the WEF's Board of Trustees, expressed her readiness to take on the role, thanking fellow board members for their confidence in her. The current co-chairs of the WEF are BlackRock CEO Larry Fink and André Hoffmann, vice chairman of Roche.
The board has not yet made a decision on when Lagarde should assume the presidency, but it's clear that she is being groomed to take over soon. Lagarde's eight-year term as ECB president expires in October 2027.
