Lagarde Keeps Door Open to Early Exit from ECB Post
European Central Bank (ECB) president Christine Lagarde has left the door open to an early exit from her post, despite stating she will leave in 2027. In a recent interview with Irish national broadcaster RTE, Lagarde was asked about rumors of her resignation and whether she would remain until her term ends in October 2027.
Lagarde replied 'we'll see' when asked if she would stay until the end of her term. When pressed for clarity on what this meant, she stated that whatever the time frame, it will be handled professionally. Sources close to the matter had previously suggested that France would support Dutchman Klaas Knot as her successor in exchange for a French candidate being picked for chief economist.
