Lagarde Leaves Door Open for Early ECB Departure
European Central Bank (ECB) President Christine Lagarde has left open the possibility of leaving her position before the end of her scheduled term in October 2027.
In a recent interview with Ireland's national broadcaster RTE, Lagarde responded to persistent reports that she could resign before her mandate expires.
Lagarde said, 'I am leaving in 2027,' when asked about her future at the ECB. However, when questioned whether this meant October 2027, the end of her current mandate, she replied, 'We'll see.'
The ECB president also emphasized that any decision concerning the timing of her departure would be handled professionally.
