Lagarde Leaves Door Open to Early Exit as ECB Successor Talks Heat Up

European Central Bank President Christine Lagarde has hinted at possibly leaving her post before her term ends in October 2027. When asked about rumors of an early resignation, she replied that 'we'll see' when pressed on whether she would remain until the scheduled date.

In response to a question from Irish national broadcaster RTE, Lagarde stated that she leaves in 2027 but refused to confirm if it would be October 2027. She added that any transition would be handled professionally, without elaborating further.

Recently, sources revealed that France would back Dutchman Klaas Knot as her successor, part of a deal where a French candidate would take over the chief economist position.
