Lagarde Raises Prospect of Leaving ECB Post Early in 2027
European Central Bank (ECB) President Christine Lagarde has hinted at potentially leaving her post early, but emphasized she will still be in office until October 2027. Speaking to French newspaper La Croix, Lagarde said she cannot rule out stepping down a few months before her term expires.
'I do not exclude the possibility of stepping down a few months before the end of my term,' she stated. 'But I have not announced anything concrete.'
Lagarde's eight-year term is set to run until October 2027, and she has ruled out standing in France's presidential election next year.
