Lagarde Rules Out French Presidency Bid Citing Energy Demands

European Central Bank (ECB) President Christine Lagarde has ruled out running for the French presidency next year, citing the energy required for the position and the sacrifices involved.

Lagarde's statement comes as speculation about her potential departure from the ECB leadership early has intensified. Her eight-year term at the ECB ends in October 2027, but she claims that if she were to leave earlier, it would only be by a few months.

Her comments also touched on France's financial situation, with public debt approaching 120% of GDP. Lagarde emphasized the need for a credible plan to reduce debt, labor-market reforms, and measures concerning the pension system.
