London Businesses Feel Pinch of Ongoing US-Canada Trade Dispute
A trade dispute between Canada and the US is affecting London's economy, causing uncertainty for businesses and consumers. The Falcon Shop at Fanshawe College is dealing with changing costs and demands due to the ongoing tariff uncertainty.
Tracy Veitch, supplies buyer at the Falcon Shop, expressed her concerns about the future. 'Just the uncertainty... it just feels like that's changing all the time, and you don't know what to expect,' she said.
Veitch noted that while the shop hasn't seen a significant impact yet, they're taking precautions. 'So far I don't think there's been a big effect. There are lots of ways to get around it for when I'm buying around here. So whenever I can find a way around it, that's what we do,' she said.
The US has imposed 50% tariffs on Canadian goods worth $20 billion, effective August 22. In response, Canada has imposed counter tariffs of 15%, 25%, or 50% on some US goods, starting September 8.
