London Prepares for Notting Hill Carnival as Summer Events Wind Down
This week in London is all about preparation for the city's biggest street party, Notting Hill Carnival, which celebrates its 60th anniversary. The carnival will take place from Saturday to Monday and features a range of events, including Panorama, the UK national steel band competition, J'Ouvert, and the adults' parade.
The Bank of England has also announced that its beehive exhibit, 'The Power of Honey,' will close on Friday, after being open for free since August 18th. The exhibit explores the connection between honey and money in ways that may seem unexpected but are thought-provoking.
Additionally, several summer events are closing their doors before the end of the week, including the Barbican's outdoor cinema, Round the Dock, Spital Beats, the Mr Doodle trail, and the Globe's production of A Midsummer Night's Dream. These events offer a range of experiences, from film screenings to live music performances.
For those looking for something free to do, several options are available. The Notting Hill Carnival is open to the public on Sunday and Monday, with no ticket required. Outernet will also be showcasing Ian Watts' archive of carnival photography, which offers a unique perspective on this iconic event.
