London Stocks Edge Up on Inflation News, Gold Miners Shine
London stocks rose on Wednesday after inflation came in at 2.9% year-on-year in July, matching expectations and supporting bets that the Bank of England will keep borrowing costs unchanged in September.
The FTSE 100 index edged up 0.1% to 10,743.35 points, while the midcap FTSE 250 climbed 0.3% to 24,643.52 points.
The gold price surge of nearly 3% against a softer dollar lifted mining stocks, with Fresnillo, Endeavour Mining and Pan African Resources all rising more than 7%.
