London Stocks Surge Amid Hawkish Bank of England Decision
The London stock market experienced a significant surge on Thursday, with the FTSE 100 index rising by 1.2% to 10,816.14 points.
This increase was driven in part by falling bond yields and lower oil prices, which are both considered positive indicators for investors.
The Bank of England's Monetary Policy Committee voted 6-3 to maintain the bank rate at 3.75%, with Governor Andrew Bailey stating that 'policy may have to tighten' if the ongoing Middle East conflict persists.
While the unchanged vote was expected, it was accompanied by a shift within the majority, with five of the six members who supported a hold outlining circumstances under which they would vote for tighter policy.
