Loonie Sees Small Gains as US Dollar Index Pulls Back
The Canadian dollar experienced a slight boost on Friday morning as its US counterpart retreated. According to the latest data, the loonie was trading at US$0.7024 or US$1=C$1.4237 as of 8:36 am CDT.
This came after the U.S. Dollar Index pulled back by 0.218 of a point to 101.665. The Canadian dollar's movement is closely tied to fluctuations in the value of the US dollar, which has significant implications for trade and investment between the two countries.
Meanwhile, crude oil prices took a hit due to decreased demand from the European Union. West Texas Intermediate dropped by US$3.55 to US$89.32 per barrel, while Brent crude fell by US$2.61 to US$99.70 per barrel.
