Maine Governor Janet Mills has penned an op-ed in Canada's largest newspaper, the Toronto Star, to express her concerns about the ongoing trade war between the United States and Canada.

Mills emphasizes that the relationship between the two countries is not just a matter of politics, but also one of shared economy, history, friendships, families, and way of life. 'Our relationship does not belong to any one president or prime minister,' she writes. 'It belongs to the everyday Mainers and Maritimers who can pull up a chair at Tim Hortons, do business together, and lend a hand when a neighbour needs one.'

The Governor highlights that the trade war is having a devastating impact on Maine's economy, particularly on small businesses, millworkers, and rural communities. She attributes this to the new tariffs imposed by the Trump administration against Canada, which are set to take effect in the next week.
