Makhlouf Warns ECB May Hike Interest Rates in October
Central Bank of Ireland governor Gabriel Makhlouf has cautioned that the European Central Bank (ECB) may raise interest rates in October if circumstances require it.
Makhlouf, who is also a member of the ECB's Governing Council, made the comments to Bloomberg Television on Thursday. He stated that while there are currently no worrying signs of inflation spreading into wages, officials will take each decision on borrowing costs as it comes.
This means that the ECB may still opt for an interest-rate hike in October, despite the current economic uncertainty.
