Maldives Police Seize MVR 3.8 mn in Foreign Currency from Expatriates
A group of expatriates attempting to traffic MVR 3.8 million in foreign currency out of Maldives was thwarted at Velana International Airport, according to police.
The six Bangladeshi nationals were stopped while trying to board their flight after a large amount of foreign currency was found on them.
The total value of the seized currency is approximately MVR 3.8 million, consisting of USD 174,161, EUR 56,760, and GBP 1,815.
The police report that the currency was hidden inside cereal packets.
The individuals involved have been taken into custody as part of an ongoing investigation.
